So I e-mailed the CC coach at Gustavus telling him my situation on joining... well here, I'll let you read it since I'm too lazy to re-type it:
Question: Is there a fee to join CC?
I was just curious because I saw a $173 activity fee on my little bill thing and if there is a fee, I won't be able to join. I would really like to join because I'm not good at working out by myself and I need a team support type thing. It has been hard for me to train this summer due to me working as well as heat and injury. My mom says that since I'm not putting forth enough effort to work out daily, that I shouldn't join college CC because I won't be able to keep up and I'll just die (which I don't completely disagree with). However, I do plan to join track for sure as a pole vaulter. I need to get in shape during school some how... sorry about getting you involved, I just realized that I'm kinda just unnesessarily spilling the beans, but that is my situation. I know that I won't be of real big value to the CC team meet wise, but I do work hard and can be a good motivator.

and so this is what he responded with:
Hi Becca,
Thanks for being honest with me. The activity fee on your bill shows up on every first year students bill at Gustavus. It is a fee that helps cover all activities across campus. This includes campus movies, plays, bands that come and perform, etc. If you take advantage of all of the great things that are going on around campus, then the activity fee is well worth it. Whether you attend any activities or not, you still pay.
As for Cross Country, I won't expect you for early camp, but if you would like to come join us when you come for orientation on September 3rd, you are welcome to do so. Or you could wait this fall, join track and reconsider next fall. Track practice begins in late October, so you'll have training partners to work with then.
Don't hesitate to stop by my office when you arrive in the fall and ask questions.
Take Care,
Jed
So instead of moving out on the 31st I'm moving out on Sept 3rd. Damnit! I wanted to be on the team! Well, there goes all my plans! My rooommate moves in the 30th, and my CC friends that I've talked to now on-line for a while are still moving in on the 31st! BAH!!!!
*whimper*
